On Indian roads accidents kill 384 people every day, that’s almost 16 people an hour.

Now you might think if there is any way you can help to reduce the number of fatalities on our roads. The most obvious solution to reducing the number of fatalities is to take some easy steps like:

1. Making sure all passengers wear a seatbelt regardless of where they are sitting in the vehicle.

2. Put your phone and other devices to the side and on silent mode so that you can concentrate on driving.

3. Follow the rules of the road and remember that overspeeding will not get you there any faster

The aforementioned points are a given but there is one other thing you as a driver can do to bring down the number of fatalities. As you know, in the case of an accident every second counts and the safest and quickest way for a patient to get to a hospital for further care is an ambulance. The golden hour is a period of one hour or less in which a patient should be brought to the hospital for treatment of traumatic injuries sustained by causality or a medical emergency.

If you see an ambulance coming towards you always pull to the left side of the road and stop if it is safe to do so till the ambulance passes. This is called creating a safe passage and that is very crucial in getting a patient to the hospital without any delays. If every road user does this, the amount of people that we can save will go up substantially.
